■ About Moirai
Moirai is a small coastal settlement in Atsuta, Ishikari, Hokkaido.
Moirai is a place shaped by the sea, the wind,
and its dramatic landscape.
There is a shoreline facing the Sea of Japan, steep coastal cliffs, and driftwood and other debris carried by the currents of Ishikari Bay often wash ashore.
A river mouth lies nearby, and strong winds blow in directly from the sea.
This combination of rugged terrain and harsh natural conditions creates the unique “landscapes” that appear in the pottery of Moirai Kiln.
■ 望来という土地
北海道・石狩市厚田 望来。
望来は、海と風と地形がつくる独特の風土をもつ場所です。
海に面した浜があり、切り立った崖があり、
石狩湾を漂ってきた流木や漂流物が打ち上がることもあります。
近くには河口もあり、海からの風が強く吹きつける土地です。
この複雑な地形と厳しい自然環境が、 望来窯の器に独特の“景色”を与えています。
■ The Rhythm of the Studio
Moirai Kiln is a small studio by the sea.
Work progresses slowly and in small batches,
in harmony with nature and the maker’s physical condition.
Each kiln firing becomes a quiet milestone,
and new pieces are born alongside the changing seasons.
Rather than mass production, each piece is made carefully—
as if capturing the air and atmosphere of Moirai at that moment.
■ 工房の営み
望来窯は、海のそばの小さな工房です。
制作は、自然と体調に寄り添いながら、
ゆっくりと、少量ずつ進みます。
窯出しは生活の節目であり、
季節の変化とともに器が生まれます。
大量生産ではなく、
“その時の望来の空気”を焼き付けるように
一つひとつ丁寧に作られています。
■ Clay, Glaze, and Local Materials
At Moirai Kiln, each piece is crafted with a deep commitment to using local materials. The clay itself is dug by hand from the coastal land around Moirai. Its natural grain, mineral content, and iron-rich layers give the pottery a texture that reflects the land it comes from.
The glazes are made from ash created from materials found in everyday life in Moirai, including:
- Local apple tree ash
- Local cherry tree ash
- Hokkaido rice “Nanatsuboshi” husk ash
- Local susuki (pampas grass) ash
By blending these ashes and firing them in the strong coastal humidity and wind, each piece develops a unique surface— a landscape shaped by the environment itself.
Moirai Kiln also creates pieces using sea glass washed ashore on the Moirai coast. Fragments carried by the sea are given new life in the pottery, becoming expressions that could only be born in this place.
■ 土と釉薬・素材
望来窯では、地元の素材にこだわり、
一点一点を丁寧に制作しています。
器の基礎となる土は、望来の海沿いの土地から
手で掘り起こした粘土 を使用しています。
その粒子の粗さや鉄分の含有量など、
望来の地層そのものが器の質感に現れます。
釉薬には、望来の暮らしの中で手に入る素材を焼いて作った
灰釉 を使っています。
- 地元のりんごの木の灰
- 地元の桜の木の灰
- 北海道米「ななつぼし」の籾殻の灰
- 地元の薄（すすき）の灰
これらの灰を調合し、海沿い特有の湿度や風の影響を受けながら焼成することで、 毎回異なる“景色”が生まれます。
さらに、望来の浜に流れ着いた 漂流物のシーグラス を使った
作品も制作しています。 海が運んできた欠片が、
器の中で新しい命を得るような、望来ならではの表現です。
■ The Maker’s Aesthetic
At Moirai Kiln, the creative philosophy centers on listening to the land and quietly accompanying the life of the person who uses each piece.
Rather than pursuing perfection, the work embraces the natural variations created by Moirai’s environment— the subtle shifts in season, air, and light.
A vessel is not complete the moment it leaves the kiln. Its true story begins only when it is held, used, and lived with. Through daily use, the piece grows richer, becoming part of the rhythm of the user’s life.

a quiet companion that matures alongside the person who uses it.

望来窯の器づくりは、
風土と向き合い、使う人の生活に静かに寄り添うこと
を大切にしています。
完璧さを追い求めるのではなく、
望来の自然が生み出す揺らぎや景色をそのまま受け入れ、
その時の季節や空気と対話しながら制作しています。
器は、作った瞬間が完成ではありません。
使う人の手に渡り、日々の暮らしの中で育っていくことで、
はじめて “その器の物語” が始まります。
望来窯の器は、 使う人の生活のリズムや時間の流れとともに、
ゆっくりと深みを増していく存在です。
